P31 OBS Blog Hop

It’s Week 4 Blog Hop with the Made to Crave Online Bible Study.  Let’s unpack our verse for the week, 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV):

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly
about my weaknesses, so that
Christ’s power may rest on me.

Here we find Paul teaching his church, yet again.  I learned this second letter was much more personal than his first.  His first letter to his church was practical, focusing on the character of the church.  But some questioned Paul’s authority wondering “who are you to tell us what to do”.  So Paul’s second letter shared his deep love for the church.

It made me think of myself.  I’m sure God asks “do I have to tell her again” when I struggle between my faith and my temptations.  I ‘know’ the practical.  I should eat healthy and exercise.  Yet I ‘need’ the personal.  I need to hear God remind me that he loves me.

A few words in our verse this week stood out to me so I looked them up in the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

  • sufficient = enough to meet the needs of a situation
  • power = God’s ability to control people or things
  • perfect = satisfying all requirements
  • weakness = something that you like so much that you are often unable to resist it
  • boast = brag; speak with pride

If the number of times Paul uses “boast” in this letter is any indication, he wants us to boast A LOT.

I am weak.  My food struggles are real.  How about you?  Paul teaches us that God’s grace is all we need.  We can turn our lack of self-control over to God.  He is able to satisfy all our requirements.  Let’s turn to God and “boast” in prayer.

God, I’m struggling here.  I am weak and looking for my “quick fix” of comfort in the pantry again.  Your power is made perfect in my weakness.  I’m relying on you to give me the strength to make a better choice.  Teach me to crave time with you, not food.
